The Luxury of Enough

I recently read an article in Custom Home magazine about architect Sarah Nettleton called “Simple Pleasures”. The entire article can be read here.

Custom Home Spring 2015

The article resonated because Ms. Nettleton focuses on “the luxury of enough” in her design, which boils down to “asking what is really important, what’s authentic. It’s about the experience of living in the house, not just about what it looks like.” Continue reading

Keith Homes Wins 2013 Housing Excellence Awards

At the annual Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh (BAMP) dinner on December 6th, Keith Homes won three housing excellence awards. We are very proud of the quality of the homes we build, and the winning home is no exception; it was a lot of fun to attend the dinner (collecting the awards definitely contributed to that!) and catch up with other building professionals from  around the area.

The award-winning home is our own Apple Blossom design. This home was devised as a sustainable, high value alternative to a condo or patio home for downsizing customers who desire one level living in a single family home without sacrificing superior construction techniques or energy efficiency.  We maximized the usable space in this home, with all of the primary living space on the main floor and a private guest suite on the lower level. Our Mountain Laurel plan is a larger version of this home which adds two more bedrooms to the main level. The Evergreen plan, with its open main living area, is the original design behind both of these popular homes. Our current quick-move home is an Evergreen model.

We are most proud of winning the BEST GREEN ENERGY EFFICIENT HOUSING UNDER $500k award. We believe in building sustainable homes using the most modern techniques that will stand the test of time. This project is representative of our work in green housing and of the quality of the homes we build. Independently tested by a third party, the house earned a HERS score of 54. To meet current building codes, a home’s HERS score must be below 100. To meet the Energy Star standard, a house must score less than 80. We don’t believe in merely meeting the standard; we want to set new standards, in all aspects of the building process. Every single home we build exceeds the Energy Star standard.

This same house also brought home two more Housing Excellence awards: BEST SINGLE FAMILY DETACHED HOME UNDER $250K and BEST 50+ HOUSING SINGLE FAMILY DETACHED HOME UNDER $250K (price excludes lot cost). Now the big question is, where to keep the awards? I am voting the bathroom; its very Hollywood.

Phase 4 Lots Now Available

We now have two home sites in Phase 4 available to build. Lot 401 and 402 are both private, wooded, half acre lots and are ready for a Fall 2013 start. Lots 409 and 410 will be ready to build on in the Spring of 2014. We went a little out of order in the phase development- we have 2 lots in Phase 5 that are available now for new homes, and 4 larger lots that will be available in the Spring as well!
